The Divine Word Missionaries were well-represented at the recent Australian Catholic Communications Congress, which took the theme, ‘Missionary Message for the Modern World’.
The SVD also came away from the Congress with an Australasian Catholic Press Association award for an article on confreres growing their own gardens – an activity which contributes to both spirituality and sustainability.
SVD Communications Coordinators from across the Asia-Pacific region gathered in Manila, the Philippines, recently to share ideas and resources for spreading the Good News in effective and innovative ways.
Communications Coordinator for the SVD Australia Province, Fr Joseph Reddy SVD, said the purpose of the gathering was “to enhance the communication skills and media learning of the SVD Provincial/Regional Communication Coordinators of the ASPAC Zone”.
The Divine Word Missionaries AUS Province is reaching out further into the digital world with a new-look website and the launch of an App designed to deliver Mission news right to your phone or other mobile device.
With one touch, the free App provides news, scripture reflections, calendar events and more – perfect for keeping in touch with SVD Mission wherever you are.
Speaking at the launch of the App, Provincial, Fr Henry Adler SVD said it was another step from the Province to “make social communications and media part of our life and involve them in Mission”.
Papua New Guinea is a country where reliable access to the internet and digital technology is poor or non-existent for most of the population, and that’s partly why the Communications students at Divine Word University in Madang, have taken to their new drone with such enthusiasm.
The drone, which was funded by a donor, and bought in Australia, places the students at the cutting edge of video filming technology and they are already making the most of it.
